We want everyone to be on the same page. Refer to the definitions to understand what makes up each allergen or preference. For allergen groups, we provide an extensive list of the allergens in that group.

For dietary preferences, we provide what the preference includes and some examples of what it excludes.

As we cover many common allergies, and it's important to understand Ingredifind's definition of them as they may differ from certain government agenencies.

Celery

Celery includes the stick, leaves, seeds, and root (also known as celeriac). It is commonly found in condiments and dressings, stock cubes, and spice mixes, as well as meat products and smoothies.

Coconut

Coconuts are seeds from palm trees and are not Tree Nuts. Coconut is commonly found in confectionary, bakery items, and milk alternatives such as plant-based milk and cheese.

Crustaceans

Crustaceans include but are not limited to barnacles, crayfish (crawfish), lobster, langoustine, prawns, and shrimp.

Dairy

Dairy includes milk and milk products from mammals such as cows, sheep, goats, and buffalo. It is commonly hidden in products such as sauces, confectionary and bakery items.

Eggs

Eggs include but are not limited to eggs from hens, ducks, quails, and ostriches. Hen's egg is commonly found in cakes, confectionary, pastries, pasta and condiments such as mayonnaise.

Fish

Fish include but are not limited to cod, haddock, salmon, sardines, tuna, trout, and seabass. Fish does not include either crustaceans or mollusks. Fish is commonly found in condiments, salad dressings, and stock cubes.

Gluten

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye, barley, triticale, and sometimes oats. It is common but not limited to bread, pasta, cereal, malt, and beer.

Lupin

Lupin is a legume. Lupin seeds are commonly used to make flour that is found in some breads, pastries and pasta.

Mollusks

Mollusks include but are not limited to abalone, clams, cockles, conch, mussels, octopus, oysters, scallops, snails, and squid.

Mustard

Mustard is a seed that is common but not limited to condiments, curry, salad dressing, and seasoning. Cross-reactivity has also been reported between proteins in rapeseed and canola oil with mustard.

Peanuts

Peanuts are a legume commonly found in baked goods, cereals, confectionery, curries, and sauces.

Sesame

Sesame is a seed used as an oil, powder, or seed. It is commonly found in bread products, crackers, hummus, and sushi.

Soy

Soy, also known as Soya, is a legume that includes but is not limited to oil, tofu, soymilk, salad dressing, bread, soybeans, soy nuts, soy sauce, edamame, bean curd, and miso.

Sulfur Dioxide

Sulfur dioxide, also known as sulfites, is a preservative commonly used in dried fruit, pickled vegetables, sausages, juices, cider, vinegar, and wine.

Tree Nuts

Tree nuts are commonly found in oils and flour. They include but are not limited to almonds, brazil nuts, cashews, chestnuts, hazelnuts, hickory nuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pine nuts, pistachios, and walnuts.
